Green finance education

The Green Finance Education Charter was first announced in the UK’s Green Finance Strategy in July 2019 and was then established in June 2020. It brings together many of the world’s leading professional bodies for the first time, in a commitment to incorporating green and sustainable finance principles into the education and training programs of finance professionals worldwide.

The Charter is essential to facilitate the delivery of the UK Government’s policy objectives outlined in the Green Finance Strategy and the 10 Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution. Globally, as the UK looks ahead to hosting COP26 in November, it will also help to showcase the UK’s prominent position, as a global center for green finance, underpinned by world-leading talent.

Simon Thompson, Chief Executive, Chartered Banker Institute commenting on the launch of the new Toolkit said:

“To ensure every professional financial decision includes climate change, we must ensure every finance professional develops the expertise required to manage climate risks and identify the opportunities from the transition.  The UK’s world-leading professional bodies have key roles to play in establishing the standards, norms, values and practices to develop the capability and capacity of the finance sector globally.  We are delighted to be doing so in partnership with the Green Finance Institute and look forward to continuing to support the Institute’s mission and activities as we work together to mainstream green and sustainable finance.”
